Movie: Tonight's movie was Lady in the Water. This was a lovely film! It is different from most M. Night Shyamalan films in that it is exactly what it purports to be. In fact, this movie is based on a bedtime story that Shyamalan made up to tell his two daughters, which I think is really neat.

The twists in this movie come from the fact that it is more about a puzzle needing to be solved, rather than about a plot twist, so don't expect any surprise endings.

Paul Giamatti, lately of Sideways, does more fine work in this film. He still plays a somewhat down-and-out character, but this one is not half as annoying as his character in Sideways was Bryce Dallas Howard, as before, is the centerpiece, and she is wonderfully mysterious. Shyamalan himself has a cameo role. The character of Mrs. Choy, a woman who speaks only Chinese, steals the show, in my opinion, and Mr. Farber, a character who is a film critic, has the funniest/cathartic scene in the movie. Erm--not quite sure how to explain that; you'll just have to see the film.

Food: Afterward, we had dinner at the Cafe Adobe, where I ate their Avocado Adobe. It is half an avocado, stuffed with cheese, bacon, and shrimp, lightly breaded and fried, and topped with ranchero sauce. It is to die for!
